Political Choices

Politics .. why do they cause such heartache? I'm torn between candidates. I'm watching the Super Tuesday returns and wonder .. who do I choose?

I lean toward one based on issues and experience but lean toward the other because of potential and planned direction for the country. Do I go with the person who I think can beat the Republican candidate? Or, do I go with the person who I think has a better chance of being able to make the changes that need to be made in our political, social, and economic systems?

How do I choose?

How do you choose?

Help ... comments please.

One of the ideas that helped me choose early was this:
Big change doesn't happen after a 51%-49% election. No mandate = no real changes. The truly great pieces of progressive legislation occurred after electoral landslides. See Reaganomics in the 80s. The Civil Rights Act in '65, after LBJ obliterated Goldwater, not to mention Medicare. FDR's New Deal programs - stunning ideas like Social Security.

That said, Hillary Clinton has no chance for a landslide. Barack Obama, with all of the new people he brings to the party, as well as capturing a fair share of Independents, has a legitimate shot at a landslide.

Personally, I'd go even further and say that Hillary Clinton could easily lose the November election. Why? She doesn't appeal to independents as much. Fairly or not, she is a polarizing figure. Bill Clinton could sabotage the campaign at any time. And most of all, because if it were between Hillary and McCain, I am not sure who I would vote for, and I am a progressive Democrat. People like me, who have been put off by the Clinton political machine, might make this a very tight general election.
